Review: Unhinged by A.G Howard

17449197

Book: Unhinged, A.G Howard
Series: Splintered #2
Publisher: Amulet Books
Release Date: January 7th, 2014

Alyssa Gardner has been down the rabbit hole and faced the bandersnatch. She saved the life of Jeb, the guy she loves, and escaped the machinations of the disturbingly seductive Morpheus and the vindictive Queen Red. Now all she has to do is graduate high school and make it through prom so she can attend the prestigious art school in London she's always dreamed of.

That would be easier without her mother, freshly released from an asylum, acting overly protective and suspicious. And it would be much simpler if the mysterious Morpheus didn’t show up for school one day to tempt her with another dangerous quest in the dark, challenging Wonderland—where she (partly) belongs.

As prom and graduation creep closer, Alyssa juggles Morpheus’s unsettling presence in her real world with trying to tell Jeb the truth about a past he’s forgotten. Glimpses of Wonderland start to bleed through her art and into her world in very disturbing ways, and Morpheus warns that Queen Red won’t be far behind.

If Alyssa stays in the human realm, she could endanger Jeb, her parents, and everyone she loves. But if she steps through the rabbit hole again, she'll face a deadly battle that could cost more than just her head.

Top 10 Books of 2016

 https://rachelpoli.files.wordpress.com/2016/11/top-10-books-of-2016.jpg?w=840

I wrote a post last year about my top 10 books of 2015, and I thought I'd do the same again this year. Unfortunately, I didn't have such a great reading year in 2016 as I did in 2015. I re-read a lot of books and there weren't a lot of new books that completely astounted me or gave me a book hangover. So these books mightn't necessarily be released this year, but I read them this year.

Blog Tour & Character Interview & Giveaway: Fire in You by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Hi everyone! Welcome to my stop on the blog tour for Jennifer L Armentrout's amazing book, Fire In You! I'll be doing a character interview with Kristen Morgan, aka Brock's ex-girlfriend. Check it out below!

***************************************************

Hi Kristen! Thanks so much for meeting with me today. I have a few questions to ask you, if you wouldn't mind answering them.

What attracted you to Brock in the first place?

Brock is a sexy as hell MMA fighter.  All women are attracted to him.

What was your first impression of Jillian when you saw at the bar?

Why would I pay any attention to Jillian at the bar? We went to high school together, so I knew her before that night. I was talking to Brock and I didn’t really even notice her.

Did you think you and Brock would last forever?

Absolutely.

What did you think when you saw Jillian in Brock's office?

When I first walked into Brock’s office, I was jealous. After I realized it was Jillian with him, I couldn’t imagine that he would be interested in her.

What was going through your head after Jillian had her accident?

I think everyone felt bad for Jillian and I knew that Brock felt terrible about what happened to her.

Book: Fire In You, Jennifer L. Armentrout

Series: Wait For You series #6

Publisher: Entangled Publishing

Release Date: November 28th, 2016
From the # 1 New York Times and International bestselling author comes a richly moving story about heartbreak and guilt, second chances and hope. Full of familiar, fan-favorite characters and no two people more deserving of a happy ending, Fire In You will burn bright beyond the last page…

Jillian Lima’s whole world was destroyed in a span of a few hours. The same night her childhood love, Brock ‘the Beast’ Mitchell, broke her heart, her life was irrevocably altered by the hand of a stranger with a gun.  It takes six years to slowly glue together the shattered pieces of her life, but Jillian is finally ready to stop existing in a past full of pain and regret. She takes a job at her father’s martial arts Academy and she’s going out on her first date since a failed relationship that was more yuck than yum. Jillian is determined to start living.

She just never expected Brock to be a part of her life again. But he’s firmly back in her life before she knows it, and not only is he older, he’s impossibly more handsome, more teasing and more everything. And when he sees Jillian, he’s no longer capable of thinking of her as the little girl who was his shadow growing up or the daughter of the man who gave him a second chance at life. He sees the woman who’d always been there for him, the one person who believed in him no matter what.

Brock knows she’s the one he should’ve made his, and what begins as a tentative friendship quickly turns to red-hot chemistry that sparks a flame that burns brighter than lust. Falling for Brock again risks more than her heart, because when the sorrow-filled and guilt-ridden past resurfaces, and a web of lies threatens to rip them apart, the fallout could lay waste to everything they’ve fought to build together, and destroy the dreams of those they care most about.

Well, guys, we made it to the end of another series. Another group of characters we’ve come to love and have to say goodbye to. And Jen did a great job of giving closure to all the past couples, as well as the couple in this book, Jillian and Brock.

We’d met Jillian and Brock in past books – Jillian was a young, naïve girl who was the daughter of the man who owned Lima Academy, a successful company that trains MMA fighters. We see her in Forever With You, where it’s obvious she’s got a gigantic crush on Brock, who only saw her as a baby sister. It was quite heart breaking to see that, as it didn’t look like Brock would ever see Jillian as anything other than his “Jillybean”.

That Jillian is gone when we meet her in Fire In You. Six years have passed since we’ve last seen her, and a traumatic and scary experience has changed Jillian, and the outlook she has on life. She no longer has any contact with Brock, and works in an insurance firm – going to work, coming home from work, reading, watching Netflix, and going to sleep. Rinse and repeat.

She’s afraid to live life and it was so sad to read. Jen doesn’t explain immediately what happened, just in little snippets, and it was wonderfully done.

She decides to take a new position at her father’s academy, Lima Academy, as it is a legacy and a part of her. Of course, who also happened to have started working there? None other than Brock Mitchell, the man she was desperately in love with, and whom she hasn’t seen in years. What starts out as complete and utter avoidance slowly turns into a tentative friendship, and then into something more.

“I loved you when I was eight. I loved you when I was twelve. I loved you when I was twenty and I… I love you now.”

Brock was a mystery in the past books – all we knew was that he was a famous MMA fighter, and an idol of Cam’s (from Wait For You). But we delve much deeper into his past here – how he came from nothing but rose to fame because of the belief Jillian’s father had in him. I loved how much he cared for Jillian, and never forgot about her during the six years they were apart.

And together, my God, these two were just sizzling! Even at the start, when Jillian did her best to avoid Brock, you could practically taste the sexual tension in the air. And, as its NA, this book does get quite hot and kinky at times, but Jen writes it incredibly well.

I adored that all the past couples made appearances here too. Cam and Avery have an adorable family together, Jase and Tess are making their family bigger, and all the other past couples are loved up and/or married or pregnant. It was the best way to get a smile on my face, even while reading about Jillian's hardships.

“They all had their own struggles and stories to tell, and they made it to this point, happy and in love.”

Just like the rest of the books in the series, it warms your heart, puts this big goofy smile on your face, and all you can do is wish for the characters' happily ever after. When this book comes out, get it! It will take your breath away in the best way possible.

“Scars, whether physical or emotional, could be not just a representation of survival but also a story of hope.”
